I was reading through a blog today which i can’t remember the link so if any of you know please say, but I found a great post on how to get unique authoritative content, How can this be? If content is authoritative then that means it must be proven to work in the search engines. Yet if the content is unique then it can’t exist in the search engines. Hmm doesn’t make sense, the blog then goes on stating that content can be dropped from the search engines’ index, and all we have to do is find dropped content from the search engines and paste it into our Build a Niche Stores. There are many ways we an find this kind of content;

  • Archive.org: There is plenty of website we can search using this method, and we can immediatly spot the authoritive sites by checking there position in the search engines etc. So type in any old article directory website into the archive, it took me a couple of goes to find some working links with articles  on, most do not tend to be saved in the archive.
  • Do a SITE command in the search engines; for example (SITE:buildanichestore.com/members) etc If it doesn’t come up great! But also check your links with CopyScape.com and i’ve also found a nice new one (Duplicated content checker) It gives you direct links to the sites with your content on there, although people have said it not to be too reliable, so use other duplicate content checkers.
  • If it doesn’t exist in the search engines, take it ;)
  • Also try and look through site maps, forums, try comands in google (site:domain.com “Sorry this page cannot be found”) then use the cache function in another search engine which may not have updated yet.

If you have any more suggestions please comment, but Note: this is classified as a black hat SEO option, not by me, but by the person who come up with this concept, hes the SEO Expert not me, so use at your own risk, but i can’t really seem too much harm in this method, can you?

Researching your own niche is a very important step, its just like any kind of market research you would take when setting up a business, you need to research the size, (how many other BANS affiliates there are selling the same as you), how many visitors you expect to get from search engines etc.

In the last post i covered how you can find a niche from objects around your house, if you didn’t manage to find any, thats fine, we will see what people are buying online and use this data to find a good niche to get into. Many of these tips i got from marks blog :) but i do have some of my own methods of finding niches also.

So lets see what people are buying, for this i usually head over to shopping.com and click on top searches here and you will see a list of categories, i just clicked on jewellery for a quick example, and these results come up.

1 primark
2 drop price tv
3 zodiac tattoos
4 british passport
5 price drop tv uk
6 hug kiss ring

which as we can see not alot of quality information come up for us, i suppose you could make a niche selling primark jewellery, just an example (not a very good one) But if you do decide to sell a brand name product, don’t put that name in your Domain, e.g. Primarkjewellery.com if primark wanted that domain, they could get it and all your hard work down the drain. Well using shopping to find a niche could be an option, the good thing about shopping.com top searches is it tells us what people are actually searching for on websites which is a factor we could take into account.

There are many other shopping directories which you can look into also;

Google shopping directory - search for niche shops in there (ideas)

Heres a great list of top searches from search engines (a tool we will be using)

There are many more ways to find your niches, which i’ll add to this thread when i think of them.

Below i’ve taken a small piece from marks blog, i found this to really help me when i was searching for my niches for the first time.

Extract taken from Marks Blog

One of my favorite parts on Marks blog in this series is his research section, found here. I especially likes his exercise for discovering a niche, i didn’t think of it this way when i was considering my niche, i was looking more into the technical side of it, which i’ll cover later.

So… how do you discover a Niche Market? First… start with a pen and paper (pencils are OK). Write down 10-20 things in your home, apartment, car, or just in general… that need to be repaired or replaced! For me, starting with the walk up the driveway:

  1. My Mailbox is Broken (not bad… but its one of those things I know exists)
  2. My Boots are getting worn out
  3. The Lawn needs to be cut, wonder how the mower is doing? (Yes, its 70 degrees in NC right now)
  4. I need a storage bin for outside stuff like yard tools etc
  5. There are leaves on the ground everywhere, grab the blower.
(Can you tell I dont like yardwork yet?)
  6. As I pass my car I remember I just bought a radar detector(Beltronics Vector 995 for those who may ask)
  7. Hmmm how many times have we talked about yard lights along the driveway?
  8. I wont tell the story - but I just had to put a set of tires on a car with 3000 miles also!
  9. The front door handle is a bit loose and old
(As I walk in, I scan the room)
  10. I remember the Gas Logs in the fireplace had a funny odor this year - they must be old
  11. Hey - I just bought that fireplace mantle- on eBay even! (Yes, I clicked one of my aff sites first :-) )
  12. We are talking about taking out a wall between the main room and the kitchen, but I need some extra tools for that.
  13. Just replaced the range hood over the oven(bought on eBay)

END of Extract

So you can just look around your house, see what you need and chances are other people are going to need the same things.

That is one way to look for a niche, read my next post for a more technical approach to researching/finding your niche, and  if you have already found a few you like, we will use your niches and see if there is a market out there for them.

This could be one of the most important steps you take when creating your BANS websites, i’ll outline the main things to look out for when picking a domain name.

Note: A domain is a lease/renting of internet real estate, you never actually ‘own the domain’ but its yours for as long as you want it. For example; say you wanted to register a domain for 1 year, 60 days before that year of registration is up, you will get an email, asking if you want to renew it, if you do, you pay for another year etc… you don’t pay the domain goes back out for someone else to register, so make sure you RENEW your domains, especially if your doing all this promoting, because the last thing you want is for it to be released and someone else snap it up, because revenue & traffic generating domains get picked up almost immediately after they are dropped, i’ve seen it happen.

You going to need to ask yourself a few questions when buying a domain name;

Do you want a New fresh name? (If so i suggest godaddy.com i’ve not had any problems with them, there the number one register in the world, you can read some of the many reviews on godaddy here

Average Ratings
Features
Price/Value
Interface/Usability
Customer Service
Overall Rating

or if you wish to pick another domain register, check out the reviews on the leading domain registers online here.

Or

Do you want a old name, e.g. registered back in 2005 etc.

The problem when registering a new name is that google and other search engines may think your site is a Spam website, as from experience almost all spam websites are created and immediately put into operation, and quickly banned from search engines. One way to over come this is to register your domain for more than one year, i read somewhere on the buildanichestore.com forum that registering it for 2 or 3 years etc, reoves some posibility that its not a spammy website, i personally found that it made little difference to my performance in the search engines. So if people want to register older names, which may already be indexed in the search engines (which is a good thing) can do so, but i’d expect to be paying a little more than the domain registration fee.

If you are opting for an older domain, your going to have to buy it off someone, there are many marketplaces where you can buy domains from people, below i’ve listed a few which i check every day.

http://www.namepros.com/
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24
https://www.tdnam.com/trphome.aspx
http://acorndomains.co.uk
http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/
http://sedo.com
http://ebay.com
http://DNForum.com
http://BQB.com

Other things to look for when picking a domain,  apart from age, you need to be looking at quality, and as were about 10 years into the .com boom period, the quality is going to be quite poor, especially for .com domains, for exaple your not going to pick up name like designershoes.com etc, you need to be a little more creative with it, such as try searching for domains like, discounted-designer-shoes.com i know it may look ugly, but the way we are going to market our websites isn’t from type in traffic, or branding as such, its positioning in the search engines, for specific keywords related to our niche.

The domain Extension is an important issue i think, if you are going to be creating a .co.uk domain i’d first suggest getting one from http://123-reg.co.uk i use them and there great! Also your more likely to find a better domain with other extensions rather than the .com/.net and .co.uk will be rated higher than .us in the UK search engines etc.

If your stuck on what domain extension to use, i suggest you go over to http://eurodns.com it give you a great search for your domain for many different extensions at once, so you can see which domain has been taken.

If your really trying to get good results fast in the search engines,, try looking for a domain with lots of backlinks already in place, i use this tool but there are many others out there. Also try and get a Page ranked domain, use this tool to check your page rank, before you buy, there are many fake page ranks out there.

I think thats the basics of buying a domain covered, if you have any questions, please ask.

I’m going to outline the essentials for building a niche store with BANS.

  • First off your going to need BANS (Build a Niche Store) It cost $97 to purchase, but i believe its worth every penny, i’ve made my money back + more.
  • Secondly you are going to have to get a EPN account (Ebay Partner Network) This will allow you to track your earnings, and it the thing which pays you,not the BANS program its self. (We’re ebay affiliates, and BANS is the easy to use program. (Just to get that straightened out:)
  • Next you need a Hosting account, if you already have one Great, if you don’t i recomend HostGator, alost all the BANS users are using this hosting provider, its the best hosting around for our BANS websites, especially if you are creating lots of them. This is there hosting stats broken down, 9i recomend you pick this hosting package over the others hostgator has to offer)
  • 600 Gigs of Web Hosting Space: - Great for creating and storing lots of BANS websites
  • 6,000 Gigabytes of Bandwidth - Great if you are getting alot of visitors to your many BANS websites
  • Host UNLIMITED Websites - Exatly what it says, Unlimited!
  • FREE Instant Setup
  • 99.9% Uptime Guarantee
  • 45 Day Money Back Guarantee
  • CGI, PHP 5, RoR, Perl - We need PHP, Which is good, even though most hosting companies offer these
  • MySQL, SSH, SSL, IMAP, POP - MySQL is a must, as we will be dealing with this type database
  • FREE Site Builder -
  • cPanel Hosting - Cpanel is what i use on my hosting, (which isn’t hostgator, but i plan on using it when my hosting runs out)
  • 24/7/365 Upgraded Support - Support always a plus
  • No Contracts or Hidden Fees

Only $7.95 /month

Brilliant

  • Your also going to need a Domain name, so read my article here about picking the right domain name.
  • I also suggest you download this blue print from mark’s website here i’ll try to cover most things in this blue print, with my own little extras :)

I think thats all your going to need for now.

As i’m a regular reader of The Niche Store Builder i’ve decided to create few posts on the build a niche store software. If you haven’t done so already i suggest you read Mark’s Build a niche store empire in 12 weeks, it isn’t 100% complete but i do recomend every BANS user to read it, it gave me the stepping stones needed for me to create my BANS websites. Now as i said in my opening post, i’ve not made much money with BANS, which is my fault, but i see definite potential in the BANS program, i just haven’t put the effort in on my side, which is why i’m going to create this blog, to help motivate me, learn new things, and make more money :) If i forget something important on my blog which you think is relevant please comment or email me. I will try to be as detailed as i possibly can on the topics i cover.

Aug 11

Well this is my first post on my new blog, and I’m just going to outline some of the topics I’ll cover;

  • How I make money online
  • Some of my latest projects
  • Tutorials
  • Domain Discussion

I’ll cover some of the basic ways you can make money online, with minimal costs. (Build a niche store, affiliate marketing, using the Ebay Partner Network) Its a great little oney maker, even though i’ve not made too much, but i can defiantly see the potential if i work harder, which is one reason i’ setting up this blog, to motivate myself and create a little log of my progress along the way. Ebay partner network (EPN) pays out as much as %50 for the sale of goods you refer to ebay.com and %33 to the sale of goods to ebay.co.uk. I’ve earned up to £12.00 for one commission, the sale of goods i think was around $150.00, not a bad llittle earning considering it was one of my websites I didn’t bother with/advertise. Ebays ACRU system (the number of people you refer to ebay, which sign up on there website) pays out $25 per sign up, I’ll cover more about ebay and Build a niche store (BANS) on this blog as it will be my main focus.

Some of my other projects online apart from the Affiliate networks i’m apart of, consist of a forum, Entrepreneur Forum in which i urge you all to sign up and start posting :) I also run a number of directories, two of my main ones are Z0P.com & 0Q6.com which seem to be popular, maybe due to the fact they have a nice short name and there expensive names also, i think i paid about $100 each on them last year.
